Occupational therapy is both an art and a science. It is aimed at preventing injury and disability, promoting health and well-being and at helping individuals remain at or return to work and carry out their daily activities. Occupational therapists work one-on-one or with groups of individuals to prevent or address occupational performance difficulties. These difficulties can result from health or developmental conditions due to environmental factors or aging and can be barriers to self-care, productivity and leisure. Occupational therapists encourage their clients to call upon their own creativity and strengths to construct a new sense of self-identity and gain greater independence.
