The five-year residency training program in Psychiatry at the University of Alberta is a well-established training program with broad-based academic and clinical orientations.
The program is designed to assist its residents to:
Become competent psychiatrists able to manage a variety of clinical situations and problems in different settings in an ethical manner
Gain background knowledge of the basic sciences applicable to psychiatry
Work in a variety of roles as member of a multidisciplinary team
Satisfy the training requirements of, prepare for, and pass the certification examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Develop skills and knowledge in the expanded roles of scholar, professional, advocate, manager, collaborator, communicator, and medical expert (CanMeds 2005)
