We are excited to offer a position in our Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredited Residency Program in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Alberta. A successful completion of this 12 month PGY-6 training program is a prerequisite for the Royal College examination in Forensic Psychiatry.
Residents will be exposed to a broad range of training experiences in all areas of Forensic Psychiatry, from court ordered assessments and report writing (including high-profile cases), to treatment and rehabilitation of forensic patients during their recovery and reintegration into the community, to civil assessments. Our inpatient services are located at Alberta Hospital Edmonton, which has over one hundred forensic psychiatry beds and includes the only maximum secure designated forensic unit in the province. Our outpatient forensic service sees tens of thousands of client encounters yearly, and offers subspecialized assessment, treatment services, and outreach services. Our Young Offender programs involve both inpatient and outpatient programs and have been recognized for leadership in rehabilitation of adolescent offenders.
